The Shetland 6U™ League is the perfect introduction to baseball and softball for our youngest athletes — ages 3 to 6. At this stage, it’s all about fun, learning, and teamwork. The focus isn’t on winning or keeping score — it’s on helping kids discover the joy of the game through play, encouragement, and positive experiences.

Our Shetland League is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of baseball and softball — throwing, catching, hitting, and running — in the simplest, most enjoyable way possible: by letting the kids play!
Coaches are right there on the field offering guidance and encouragement, ensuring every player gets the chance to try different positions and learn at their own pace. Every child participates, every game — because in Shetland, everyone gets a turn at bat and a moment to shine.
A Positive Start for Every Player
At this age, attention spans are short and curiosity is high — and that’s exactly how it should be! Games move quickly to keep players engaged, while emphasizing teamwork, listening, and sportsmanship.
It’s common for players to mix up first base and third or forget which way to run — and that’s part of the fun! What matters most is that they’re learning, laughing, and falling in love with the game.

Safety and Development First
The Shetland League was developed over 40 years ago as a Tee-Ball program, using a batting tee instead of a live pitcher to promote confidence and safety. This approach prevents arm or shoulder strain, keeps the game moving, and allows young players to focus on the fundamentals of hitting and fielding without frustration.

Beyond the fundamentals, Shetland 6U™ is about developing character — teaching teamwork, respect, discipline, and sportsmanship. It’s the first step in a lifelong journey where kids learn to love the game, make new friends, and build memories that will last far beyond the field.
